Active Choices is an evidence-based health program for older adults, led by trained peer mentors who provide personalized exercise advice, counseling, and goal setting. The program covers key topics, including physical activity, chronic disease management, falls prevention, and behavioral health.

About the class

Are you ready to make a positive change in your life? Active Choices is an evidence-based health behavior change program developed by a team of behavioral scientists at the Stanford Prevention Research Center (SPRC), Stanford University School of Medicine, with the input of experts in the areas of Medicine, Public Health, Exercise Science, Nutritional Science, and Psychology.

Designed for older adults of all fitness levels, this program is facilitated by trained peer mentors who provide personalized exercise advice, counseling, and goal setting tailored just for you!

Topics covered during workshop sessions include:

  • Behavioral Health
  • Cancer Survivors
  • Chronic Disease
  • Falls Prevention
  • Physical Activity

Join us for a total of 20 engaging sessions:

  • Weeks 1-8: Weekly workshops with an initial session lasting 30-40 minutes, followed by 15–20-minute sessions.
  • Weeks 8-16: Every other week.
  • Weeks 16-24: Monthly sessions.

Workshops are available in both English and Spanish, making it easier for everyone to participate!

This program is perfect for adults aged 60 and older who are looking for remote encouragement and support to become more active. Participants should be willing to commit to a 6-month coaching program. Please note that the program is currently available only in suburban Cook County.
